Earlier in November, Facebook had announced about the company’s association with AR/VR. Facebook plans to focus on a long-term innovation plan around AR/VR and artificial intelligence. As a result, many more people can join the network. This can be achieved through their upcoming software expertises. Recently, Facebook appointed the executive of Xiaomi, Hugo Barro to lead the company’s VR technologies and products. This also includes the Oculus VR Business which was acquired by Facebook three years ago. Meanwhile, Facebook’s Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Barra’s appointment earlier last week.

The decision to hire Hugo Barra as the Vice President was partially influenced by his exposure to the Chinese Market. This accounts for about 20 percent of the VR Head mounted displays worldwide by next year according to a forecast by IDC’s Vice President of Device Research, Bryan Ma.Hugo Barra’s immense connections and a great experience can take him a long way. This can help him bring a more global perspective towards VR. Furthermore, Mark Zuckerberg also seems very happy with the appointment. Here’s what he had to say on Facebook- “I’ve known Hugo for a long time, starting when he helped develop the Android operating system, to the last few years he’s worked at Xiaomi in Beijing bringing innovative devices to millions of people.”
