Microsoft’s Patent VR MAT – Ensuring Safety while Gaming

Microsoft recently filed a patent for a Virtual Reality Floor Mat. Microsoft VR MAT is a special mat which defines the virtual playspace and prevent crashing onto the furniture while experiencing the new worlds of virtual reality.

Microsoft’s virtual reality mat patent application is accredited to the inventors Julia Schwarz, Principal Software Engineer on HoloLens, and Jason Michael Ray, Software Engineer on HoloLens. The application was filed in April 2018 and published on October 3rd, 2019.

There are still chances that users could hit surrounding objects, damaging items or injuring themselves irrespective of multiple warnings from VR systems if they cross outside space. Microsoft’s Patent VR MAT will address this issue, by providing audio heads-up or visual warning box or haptic feedback.

Artwork stated in the patent mentions a living room environment in which VR experience is provided through a game console. Employing this Xbox can take gaming experience to the next level.

Anyways, giant companies like Microsoft file thousands of patents each year and it is no way confirmation that they will manifest the same in a product.
