VertexBreakers announced today the upcoming release of a MEGA update for V-Racer
Hoverbike, launching on October 14th. Available on Oculus Home and Steam, V-Racer
Hoverbike has gathered a significant following of simracer enthusiasts since its early
access launch, now offering 30 time trial and combat races on both GP and sci-fi tracks.
Now, we are preparing to unleash an update that takes the game to a whole new level.
With the amount of changes, some early testers suggested we call it V-Racer 2.0 : new
menus, new game modes, new control systems, new bikes, a career mode, achievements,
an improved livery editor, an enhanced multiplayer mode (with a spectator mode for
streamers), and the long awaited Neon tracks.
Improvements across the board
While the core mechanics of the game stays true to the initial concept (lean your chest to
the sides to steer the bike, making racing intuitive, fun, and immersive), the focus has
been on improving the overall experience. There are major improvements in onboarding,
progression (through XP, ranking, achievements and career mode) and replayability. The
control system with chest leaning has been proven to be remarkable at minimizing motion
sickness, due to your brain getting consistent signals from your chest movements when
you lean to take a turn, as reflected in the Steam user reviews. Some players asked for
even more immersion, so we added a handlebar control system that mixes your chest
movements with your controllers, which acts as a handlebar. This allows you to
counter-steer in turns as you would on a real motorcycle.
Neon tracks
Ever wanted to try out those light cycles from the TRON movie? Our players asked for it,
so we went through all the existing tracks and bikes and reskinned them with a Neon
glowing style. But we didn’t stop there. In addition to the Neon style we also added two
new race modes. SURVIVOR is a combat mode where the last of the pack is eliminated at
each new lap, while NEON RUNNER is a race against the clock where you need to go
through gates on the track to collect extra time, and shoot mines for points.
You can also switch on the Neon visuals for any multiplayer race.
New bikes and new livery editor
We have retained the 250cc bike as the entry level bike to help ease new players into the
game. Once you are ready to advance, we now offer the new 450cc, with better handling
and speed. Then, once you’re ready to take on some real power and speed, we have the
improved version of our 600cc hoverbike. It retained the same raw power of the previous
600cc bike, but with much improved handling and braking.
As you progress through the game and collect XP and credits you can now acquire new
bike models, suits and helmets. You can then buy liveries, or go to the livery editor to dress
them to your liking. The livery editor is a place where you can select different tools and
point to your bike to paint, add decals and texts. Players have been known to get lost in
time, spending hours designing their hoverbikes to show them off in screenshots taken
with the photo mode, or in multiplayer races. The Livery Editor even lets you design logos
that you can save and reuse on your liveries, or even share them with other players.
Replayability and progression
Whether you want to race casually or get competitive, the game now offers much more
replayability and progression. As you rank up and unlock new tracks and game modes,
challenges become harder with faster bikes and better AI. The career mode has been
designed to let you reach the bronze cup without too much hassle, unlocking the next
championship in the process. However, completing every event to get the gold and
platinum cups is much more involved. Competitive racers will get renewed challenges
every week through the online weekly challenges, and of course multiplayer mode.
Combine that with time spent in the livery editor or framing your best shots in the photo
mode, and the game will easily provide hours and hours of adrenaline packed gameplay.
